Reader Interview Jennifer S

In the battle of the streaming services, who’s your favorite and what are the shows you’re watching now.
Is it okay for me to say that I still prefer cable? No seriously, I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I do like to keep background noise on in the house, so I’ll usually leave the news on or HGTV. Pretty lame right? I guess if I had to pick, Netflix.

It definitely feels as if we’re all stuck to our computer screens these days, hopefully that’s not true. Have you read any good books lately that you’d like to share with us and whether or not it was any good.
Okay, so I am happy to say that I’m a bit of a bookworm, although its no great literature, I’ve been devouring Elin Hilderbrand and Emily Giffin. I am the first to admit that they are female escapism reading, totally fun and totally brain dead. I get home from work and late at night before I go to bed I take half an hour to read and calm down and relax. For women who have read these books and enjoy them, there is nothing I need to say, for those who don’t, to each their own.

You can steal one painting or artwork from one museum and you won’t get caught, but of course you have to keep it in your house, which artist would you choose? Or which work would you choose? And why…
That’s easy, David Hockney’s Portrait Of An Artist, not just because it’s worth $90 million dollars, but it also happens to be a favorite painting of mine. Sort of goes with that whole idea of living out on Nantucket and having a swimming pool and cool colors around me… I feel like that’s a painting that would fit my aspirational Hilderbrand lifestyle.

The Green New Deal, you’ve almost certainly read or heard about it online. What’s your opinion?
Honestly I’ve only read a bit in passing. I suppose that’s a terrible answer, climate change is a very real issue and I should educate myself more about it, but I find the topic a bit overwhelming. Do we really think we can fix all of the environmental problems that we’ve caused. Just because I’m doubtful though doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. So no I haven’t really read a lot about the Green New Deal, but I definitely should and off hand I think I would support it.

Do you think that a Green New Deal would solve all of our countries woes, why or why not?
I suspect that our differences and the problems that currently plague our country these days run much deeper and will require more than just some fix all solution. But again, I’m not to well educated on the topic, so I feel like I shouldn’t

The climate is changing, would you install, or have you installed solar on your home? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I may not know a lot about the Green New Deal, but I would totally put solar panels on my house. Actually, I’d prefer if maybe they weren’t on the roof, but some place that was a little more tucked away, inconspicuous or better blended in to the rest of the property. I would have to google beautifully designed solar or something like that and find an architect or designer who could do something more in my taste and style.

It’s amazing to think that considering the environmental crisis there are still those who abide by NIMBYism. Would you be opposed to wind turbines in your neck of the woods?
NIMBY, that’s actually a term I haven’t heard before. I don’t mind wind turbines, I see them occasionally if I’m driving long distances, there are wind farms in Pennsylvania. I actually find them kind of calming. Would I want to live right underneath one absolutely not, do I mind if I see them, not in the least. I do find it sad and disappointing that there are individuals who have been misled in to believing that global warming is a hoax, or that wind turbines cause cancer, or whatever else. We need to do whatever we can to save our planet and ourselves.

The legalization of cannabis seems like a foregone conclusion, are you for or against and to what extent?
This is one of those topics that I should really read more about and educated myself on. I don’t mind people smoking marijuana or whatever they do with it. I tried it in college a number of times, never really liked it. I’d prefer if people didn’t do it in public. I just don’t like smoke.
